The early Medusa was a beautiful young woman with magnificent long, silky hair. She attracted the attention of the sea-god Poseidon.
One day, while she was in Athena's temple, she played around with Poseidon which angered Athena.
Athena was angry at the desecration of her temple she punished Medusa by changing her beautiful hair into hissing serpent.
She is so horrible that every living thing that looks upon her would turn to stone.
